Om mig The catalogue probably says more about me than anything I write here.
There's an obvious pronounced slant towards SF,comics, art & music.
I enjoy books of a literary bent as well.

our whole family (of 3) really likes Velvet Goldmine. We have the dvd and watch it ..oh once a year or so. I know the movie was a bit haphazard, but i thought it really captured an era well. And the soundtrack cd is great!~ (actually i like that soundtrack a lot better than the one for "I'm not there" which works well in the movie, but is kindof meh to listen to on its own. The opening scene w/ the protagonist running down the street w/ all the Brit girl fans is a wonderful start.
Very sad end for Mr. Murray--had no idea, thanks for the info.

Great, great film...
Arthur: Finally got around to seeing Vidor's "The Crowd", which you recommended, and I thought it an absolutely wonderful flick. THIS is the reason I can't watch comic book adaptations and CGI-filled crap any more. A remarkable piece of film-making, affecting and powerful. Thanks, kid, I owe ya one...
no big thing..w/Philip Dick there's such an amazing variety of subjects, tone, style that he employs that it's very easy for someone to really like, say "The Man in the High Castle" and dislike another book, almost taken at random from his immense oeuvre. Say, for writers of his time/era..you pretty much know what your getting w/, i dunno, say, Ballard - if you like one, you'll likely like most others. With Dick, my opinions are all over the place! But there's no denying that he's awfully important in the history of sci-fi and folks should read at least a couple of his books. They tend to be quite short, as such things go. I happened to like Jeter's follow on novels to "Androids" a lot too - rather more than Jeter's "independent" novels.
i'm actually the only person I know who finished Perdido Street...my wife, son, and closest "reading" friend with whom i trade books back and forth all the time, all put it down w/in 100 pages..so he's a perverse taste, i guess...3/4 again (of people who all like sci-fi/fantasy) is a pretty strong response. I stopped offering to loan out Perdido after the first 3 times...Sigh.

But a LOT of sci-fi..both good and bad IS pretentious by its very nature.
Hey Arthur... :)

Happy Easter to you too! Hope you're doing well...

Nice of you to pop in and check out the kitties, heh.
ArthurF, good to see you! It's been great seeing folks I've known from other forums pop up here. I hope you enjoy it, I know I have. I've missed the SFFWorld forums!
