Om mig I'm a Canadian living in semi-permanent exile in Chicago and yearning to move back to the Pacific Northwest, preferably to the Gulf Islands, as close to the edge of the grid as I can get and still have enough juice to run my laptop... I'm a former children's book editor, a failed debutante, and a political junkie, although little of this is apparent from my library.

Om mit bibliotek I've been reading lots of BC-related books to evoke that west coast sense of salt air and looming purple mountains that just can't be found here in the oh-so-flat-and-landscapeless Midwest. Also lots of naval and Victorian history lately in support of a manuscript in process. Pockets of my library reflect ages and stages gone by (Renaissance and Reformation history as an undergraduate, reading law at Oxford, studying comparative religions and religious history here in Chicago); I can't bear to part with them and although I rarely open them, they form a part of my literary baggage.

I, too, was born here on the coast and moved away...only to Alberta. We lived there for 24 years, and I always longed for ocean air. Moved back three years ago and live four blocks from the water and I couldn't be happier! E.J.Hughes is one of my favourites!
Yes, most of the selections are of 20th Century Naval History, probably because of being ex-USN. Did my initial grad studies as a Yankee at U of Manitoba which resulted in the Canadian influence.
Hi Sarah - I live on Salt Spring Island, so look forward to when you eventually make your move. Studied law at Oxford! I didn't get off Vancouver Island for law, but its quite a nice law school.
I will keep my eye out for E.J. Hughes' paintings. In Ontario the McMichael Art Gallery has often featured Emily Carr along with The Group of Seven. I love the wildness in Emily Carr - both her paintings and her writing.
Isn't the Faure selection beautiful?! I just chanced upon it in browsing the MySpace music selections. It is a true gift. I too know the Requiem primarily, and will now see what I can find of his cello selections.

I've put you on my watch list! I too have a split identity between Canada and the USA. I've spent lots of time in the USA. The mid-west does have its charm, but nothing compared to BC. Mostly I'm familiar with New England. I love the painting you have selected for your profile. Who is the artist?
