Om mit bibliotek I read books. I collect books. I enjoy the heft of a good book.
I find it interesting what a book shelf can say about the owner.
(Sometimes I find myself looking at bookshelves in the background of clothing and furniture catalogue pictures, looking for insights into a mind)
I maintain several collections:
First World War naval history focused on operations in and around the Irish Sea.
E. Keble Chatterton - both naval and general maritime.
Rupert Hart-Davis' Mariner's Library series.
General yacht cruising titles from the early 20th Century.
An overview of Art and Architecture from an Irish perspective.
As far as possible I try for first or early editions. Sometimes with success.
As someone said: The only book regretted is the book not purchased.
My bookcases creak in a high wind.
Daphne is also here and represented by the mystery and detective series, along with the sources for her Masters in American Studies. Her cookery shelves are also impressive (at least to me). We share the science fiction shelves in the bedroom.
And as for Hunter, we have only begun to catalogue the shelves in his room.
This LibraryThing catalogue details only books owned and on our home shelves currently. Nothing remains in boxes or storage as we have been in our current location so long. I do have an Irish location with full shelves that will be collected on future trips. Stay tuned to this channel!
