Om migHi! I'm a proud new writer of m/m romance. At the beginning of 2008 my first book, Captain's Surrender was published by Linden Bay Romance, after winning their world-wide annual competition.

To quote from Linden Bay:

Captain’s Surrender, a male/male historical novel set in 1779, is a beautifully written tale of forbidden romance between two star crossed lovers who are trying to survive life in the British Navy during the war with the Colonies. It’s filled with passion, intrigue, and the kind of compelling heroes that you’ve come to expect from a Linden Bay Romance novel--two of them, actually.

My new book, "False Colors" is being published by Running Press, a subsidiary of Perseus Books, in April 2009, as part of a project to spearhead the introduction of m/m romance into the mainstream. That will be available from bookshops on both sides of the Atlantic.

Alex Beecroft currently lives in Great Britain with her husband and two daughters. Raised in Cheshire, Alex studied English and Philosophy before accepting employment with the Crown Court where she worked for a number of years. Alex will tell you that she's thrilled to be doing what she always wanted to do, living her dream of being a writer, and a published romance author.

Hi again...I am pleased to hear something saved your faith, thought that's said with a twinge of jealousy. Christianity damn near ruined my life, and I can't forgive the human authors of that unnecessary crisis. The divine, well, that's a different story.

I'll let Teresa know about "False Colors", though I suspect that she'd prefer to know about Frank's process...she's been his other rock in this awful transition, being herself a gracious and accepting person. She has no problem with his sexual needs, just with a divorce...their kids are teens, and she REALLY doesn't want to decrease the stability of their home life.

You know what? I agree with her. I support honesty and openness with kids, except I don't think they should be privy to the intimate details of a parent's sex life ever, but CERTAINLY not while they're maturing ini that way themselves! So my solution is to sneak and lie for a while? Ewww. Ick. But this is a place where there are no 100% solutions.

Eep. I'm sorry for dumping this all on you, a relative stranger thousands of miles away. I'll slink off now.

Cheers

Trust an author with a new book to be broody about sales rankings! I am delighted at the furious response this has ignited, including the Google-bombing and Twitter noise.

Frank's soon-to-be-ex-wife called; she wants to read "Captain's Surrender" now! I'm gonna need another copy if this keeps up. But it's worth it to lend the book out to them...making her wait might mean she never reads it.

Changing lives, one or two, here and there...how good I hope that makes you feel.

Cheers

Greetings again...I called Frank and read him your response to my comments. He was quiet for a minute, and then said, "Why couldn't I have met HER?"

No man can give a better compliment than that!

It's pub day for "Flying Colors" and I wish it, and you, the best of success. As a drab little aside, have you seen this article from the New York Times yet? The headline is, "Amazon Says Error Removed Listings" and it affected gay and lesbian titles disproportionately. I'd strongly encourage you to visit with Linden Bay and Amazon about "Captain's Surrender" and Running Press about "False Colors," though that's a lot less urgent given the article's quoting of Christopher Navratil of Running Press.

Hello, just a note to offer a story about your book "Captain's Surrender"...I gave it to a friend of mine who, like Peter, is coming out as an adult and he was really, really moved at Chapter 24. He was shaken by the honest portrayal of the angry, terrified soul-searching that is inevitable (I guess) when completely re-evaluating your connection to the world around you.

He was completely amazed when I told him a straight lady wrote it, and said your husband was one lucky guy. I think this book is delightful and can't wait to read "False Colors"!

Oh no fear about hearing from me what I think...you're here on LT, so drop over to the "What Are You Reading Now?" thread about five days after I finally get my copy.

Unless I hate it, of course, in which case it will simply disappear from my library and never be mentioned again. Like "Space Vulture." ;-0

I expect, though, that I will enjoy it mightily. You write ini my favorite era, thr 18th Century, and about hot and sweaty mens gettin' their groove on; what on EARTH is not to love about THAT?!

Cheers

Thanks so much for your thoughtful and informative and helpful reply to my impertinent question, Alex! I understand what you are saying about the universality of experience...I can't say I am a wholehearted convert to your idea, but I think the evidence is in with your writing that there *is* universality to the experience of love and lovingkindness.

I can't WAIT until "False Colors" comes out! I will be in line to get my copy.

Cheers and a happy 2009,
RMD
Thanks Alex, just another note, my mother's ancestor in America was a Pierson.., Henry Pierson, from Yorkshire.., he and his cousin Abraham came over in 1640. Abraham started the church that developed into Yale University.

Hello Alex and many congratulations on living your dream! I think it's wonderful to have the opportunity to be a creative writer with an audience.

But I truly want to know...what is the appeal of slash to straight women? I don't get the straight male obsession with lesbian sex either. I most assuredly do not want to see/read/participate in straight sex, and haven't for years gone to see movies that feature copious amounts of same. So, enlighten me...what makes this "otherness" so appealing to so many of your compatriots? Any insights for me?

Cheers, and BTW *loved* Captain's Surrender,
Richard
