The story the author shares within this book is very detailed in the sense of putting reader/listener in the view point of Ntombi. Ntombi's story of how she faces her fears to become a big girl and be able to help out more for her family was such a wonderful story to read. As for a classroom? I think this book would work best in a 3rd or 4th grade classroom. The story is a bit long for younger students to have to sit through. For this grade range I think it would work best in, because its a bit more structured, it has some challenging words in the African language that is being spoken. This book contains an English version of stories from the San people told as one long story. The author bases her retelling on earlier English retellings from W.H.I. Bleek and Lucy C. Lloyd . Jenny Seed beautifully tells the stories of the Early Race and the end of the Dream Time and the wonderful Grandfather Mantis. She is an important author of children's books from South Africa. The illustrations capture the strangeness of the stories.
